Today we worked at the United Methodist Mission Home for the second day painting more parking stalls and picked up about 60 bags of leafs. Once all that was over we scraped off weeds off the road that they will spary with weed killer. Today was Graduation for some of the residents.  It was cool to see them in their cap and gowns.  We had a great week and we thank all of you.  This afternoon we are just relaxing and about 15 people went over to the mall down the street. See you all tomorrow! - This Blog was written by Blake Heiman.

Hey all!  We will all make dinner tonight (chinese).  We will then have communion and break bread together.  Then the kids ahve free time to play some games together and then they need to get packed up for the trip home tomorrow.  We will leave San Antonio first thing in the morning at 6:30 a.m.  We should arrive back at PV around 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.  Thanks for all your love and support we have received while in San Antonio this week.  We will see you all in church on Sunday!  Ask us about our trip- we would love to tel you about it.

San Antonio Mission Trip - June 26th

Hey!! Today we worked at the Methodist Mission Home for the morning. When we arrived we were introduced to some of the staff, and watched a short video about what all the Mission Home does. After the video we were shown to the maintenance shed and got “all geared up” for working. 2 groups painted parking lot lines and a basketball court; while another raked and bagged leaves in a field to get ready for the graduation that the Mission Home is going to host, for the graduation of their students, in their programs tomorrow. Ironically while working at the Home, we saw a San Antonio Food Bank truck drive by (two actually). At noon, we had lunch with the residents of the Home and enjoyed some wonderful ham!! Tonight we are going to Texas Land and Cattle while down at the river walk. We hope to enjoy a nice evening on the river walk.

Hope to hear from all of you and God Bless!  This blog was written by Allen Shockley!

Sorry about not writing yesterday, but could not get on the Internet, so we will write two today. Yesterday the youth and sponsors spent the day at Sea World.  We first took a behind the scenes our.  We got to touch Sting rays, see dolphins up close, Seals, Sharks, and then we saw Shamu up close.  We then all watched the show at Shamu Stadium. We then all separated and did the things we wanted too.  Some went to shows, some to the water park, and others on the Roller coasters.  What a great day for all of us to unwind and relax.  In the evening we stayed at the church and cooked burgers on the grill and enjoyed an evening of worship and games with the youth group from Bulverde UMC.  We then did devotions and had lights out at 10:30.  What a great day.  And to Roger McClellan there is plenty of Wildcat Purple in the rooms-haha!   Also Thanks for the kind words from Scott.  Now onto Thursday!   God Bless!

San Antonio Mission Trip - June 24

Good Evening All!  A special shout out to Cristy for being the first (and only) hint…hint… to write a comment on our blog-haha!   We have a good day today.  We worked at the Food Bank again today.  We divided into two groups this morning and some worked in the warehouse while others worked in the kitchen.  It was a great time again today as we interacted with many people and saw many new things.  Johanna, the director of volunteers at the food bank, told me how pleased she was with the work the kids have done and completed these two days. She was hoping they would come back and work with them again soon!  She was so impressed with the way they worked together and completed things.  She was also was impressed by the way they handled themselves working without being supervised every moment by someone from the food bank.  You all should be proud of our kids.  They stood out above the many other youth groups that were working here this week.  The were many from Texas, but a few from Missouri.  So we talked and chatted about the weather and of course KU and MIZZOU sports. KU won of course!!   ROCK CHALK!!!

This evening we were hosted by some friends of many of you PV folks, Chuck and Ina Baltzell.  Their sunday school class hosted the kids for a Texas BBQ.  We had a blast and ATE WAY too much!   The kids then played a game of tag, which was cool, because they involved every youth, plus many adults (including their youth pastor).  Of Course I had to chase the cross country boys: Allen, Jeremy, and Josh.  I should not have had that last peice of chicken. haha!  I think the kids had a great time.

Tomorrow is our day of fun, before we get back to the hot Texas sun on Thursday and Friday.  Thanks for your support and love.  We miss our families and wish you all Shalom!

Youth Mission Trip - San Antonio - June 23rd

June 23rd, 2008 Posted in General Blog's | 1 Comment »

We have spent a wonderful day at the San Antonio Food Bank.  We had a bad address so we got there late, but the kids and their sponsors worked hard.  The adults and youth did many boxing of food.  One side of the conveyor had assorted boxes for families, which had some goodies and was only good for a few days and the other side was miscellaneous boxes.  This was what a typical family of four would eat in a week. They boxed six pallets of assorted, which is approx 150 boxes of food.  The other side did 2 pallets of miscellaneous, which is equivalent to 75 boxes of food.  The food boxes weighed over 8000 pounds!!  Just completed by our group.  We will go back tomorrow to the food bank for a full day and then get to have a meal at Chuck and Ina’s for a Texas BBQ.  Look here for more updates.  We are doing well, a little tired, but hopefully some rest for us all tonight.  Good night and we all miss our church family.

2008 Mission Trip to San Antonio- June 22nd

I will update you on our adventures yesterday.  We left the church parking lot at 7:00 a.m. with many people there to say their good byes.  We stopped in Gainsville, Texas for lunch around noon and we arrived at Bulverde UMC around 6:00 p.m.  We settled into our areas at the church and then the youth and adults went to worship with the youth of Bulverde for an hour.  We then broke bread with a pizza pie and then ventured to bed with a 10:45 lights out Ultimatum.  We had some snorers, but overall it was a restful night. The girls will tell you they were cold, but I think it felt good. (Considering it was 101 here on Sunday!)  More to come tomorrow.

Good Night!

What Father’s Day means to me

June 12th, 2008 Posted in General Blog's | No Comments »

As I write this blog, I realize it has been almost 7 years since my father passed away.  I can’t believe that it has been that long.  Since his death many things have happened in my life.  My mom moved back home to Wichita,I reconnected with an old friend-who became my wife, and I have two beautiful daughters who are my pride and joy.  As Father’s day rolls around I find myself thinking of my dad.  He was my best friend.  He was my role model. He was my DAD!  I only wish that he could hold his granddaughters and talk with them.  He taught me many things-but the most important thing that he taught me- Enjoy your family!  One of my last conversations I had with my dad was about his faith.  He was so proud that I chose to be a youth leader.  He knew I had many wonderful things to teach youth.  What I did not know, was that most everything I tell the children and youth at the church is not all my own great sayings, but my dads.  I am so proud that I had my dad for 30 years of my life.  I now look forward to passing all my dad’s great anecdotes on to my daughters.  I know my dad is here with me in spirit everyday and I know that he sees his granddaughters, but I still miss him.  Happy Father’s Day Dad!  I Love you and Miss you!

At the Corner A Success!

I want to say Thank You to all the people that helped make ATC a success!  There are way too many of you to thank by name in this small area, but you know who you are!  Thanks to my Co-Chair Jason Unruh who did a great job getting things lined up.  We had a blast on Wednesday night - from eating hot dogs, looking at corvettes, listening to PC, to talking with the neighbors.  We cant do great outreach programs like this without your help, support and financial gifts.  This was a first for PV, but it will not be the last.  Jason, Nathan, and I are already looking forward to next year and adding many new things to this outreach ministry.  Where do you fit in?  Pray about it and think what you enjoy and jump in.  We are in ministry together, so we need each other.  Thanks be to God for a wonderful and safe night.  We had over 300 people in attendance!  Welcome your neighbors when you see them in church on Sunday!
